New CEO Jesse Maula aims to increase revenue tenfold
Jesse Maula, Ecobio Oy’s new CEO, has a background in the service design and marketing industries. He will lead the company in conquering the European market.
The sustainability consulting and software company Ecobio Oy has appointed Jesse Maula, M.Soc.Sc., 48, as its CEO effective September 1, 2025. Maula brings over 20 years of experience in international executive roles both in Finland and Silicon Valley, California.
Previously, Maula served as CEO of the marketing technology company Avidly and the design company Idean, of which he was a co-founder. He currently sits on the boards of several companies, including the Otava Group and Siili Solutions Plc. His strengths lie in accelerating growth in consulting and software companies, along with deep knowledge of design, marketing, and AI trends.
“Ecobio rides the wave of two megatrends: sustainability and digitalization. I’m thrilled to build a growth story with a top-tier team. It’s an honour to lead a company that is a European leader in comprehensive sustainability software and has strong experience in corporate sustainability consulting,” says Maula.
Currently, Ecobio employs 70 sustainability and technology experts. According to the company’s founder and chairperson D.Sc. (Tech.) Sanna Perkiö, the goal is a leap in international growth — multiplying the company’s revenue tenfold.
“Jesse Maula’s experience and vision will elevate our sustainability and technology services. In 2024, our revenue grew by 70%. Under Jesse’s leadership, we aim for at least 30% annual growth with 10% profitability. We receive multiple acquisition offers weekly, but we want to remain a family-owned business and grow with our own intellect and resources,” says Perkiö.
“If you think about which expert services can be credibly exported from Finland to the world — this is one. Ecobio is still a hidden gem, but it will become a well-known international player,” Maula adds.
Targeting Germany’s €500 Billion Market
Ecobio Manager, the company’s cloud-based software, is Europe’s most comprehensive solution for corporate sustainability reporting (CSRD/ESRS/VSME), carbon footprint calculation, and chemical management. The EU’s new sustainability reporting requirements have created a massive growth market for the software, as more than 100,000 companies will begin reporting sustainability data.
Germany, investing €500 billion in infrastructure and climate neutrality, is a key market for Ecobio’s growth.
“We’re also looking at new markets in the Nordics, France, and Poland. With our consulting services, we support clients where they already operate, and with our scalable SaaS solutions, we can quickly reach new regions,” says Maula.
Leadership Transition
Taru Halla, M.Sc. (Tech.), who has served as Ecobio’s CEO since 2010, will transition to a board member role and begin a new phase in her career.
“Taru has steered Ecobio into an exceptional position in the sustainability field. Her contribution has been invaluable, and we thank her wholeheartedly,” says Perkiö.
“Ecobio’s story is a testament to long-term work toward a more sustainable future. I thank all Ecobians and stakeholders for the shared journey,” says Halla.
